Man suffers serious personal injury after he is hit by a car

A recent pedestrian accident in New Haven has left a man seriously injured. The man, estimated to be in his thirties, was at last report hospitalized in critical condition as a result of the crash.

The accident happened at Pierpoint and Ferry Streets on the evening of Dec. 5. The man was allegedly staggering across the intersection, according to a witness. The witness attempted to stop the man and tell him to get out of the road. The man did not listen and instead continued walking across the road. He was then hit by a car.

Emergency responders were called to the scene. Police found the victim lying in the street. He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital to be treated for severe trauma to his abdomen and head. The motorist remained at the accident scene until medical help arrived. Authorities were not expecting to charge the driver with any crime.

Car and pedestrian accidents can be caused by a variety of factors, including distracted drivers. Pedestrian accidents are especially common after dark because the lack of daylight makes it difficult for motorists to see. However, both motorists and pedestrians are obligated to obey the rules of the road and exercise extreme caution, especially at intersections.

If the witness's account is true, then the pedestrian could be considered partially or even primarily at fault because his actions contributed to the accident. It is possible that comparative negligence could come into play, meaning that both parties could be found at fault, but to different degrees.

There are many legal complications that can arise after an accident. A Connecticut personal injury lawyer can review the facts of an accident and advise the injured or, in the case of a fatal accident, their surviving family members of their legal options.
