Life of teacher in jeopardy after being hit by car in school parking lot

All drivers must always be watchful and alert. This is especially important when attempting to navigate busy areas where both cars and pedestrians are present. Parents who drop off or pick up children from school know how chaotic the streets and sidewalks outside a school can be. The presence of running or darting children, large busses and other parents attempting to drop off or collect children can be incredibly distracting.

A veteran teacher at a Connecticut middle school was recently hit by a car outside the school where she thought seventh grade math. According to a police report, the 65-year-old teacher suffered severe injuries after she was hit by a 50-year-old mother who was dropping off her children for school.

Upon attempting to exit a school parking lot, the 50-year-old mom realized she was blocking a bus lane. At this same time, the 65-year-old teacher was making her way across the parking lot when the mother, attempting to get out of the bus lane, quickly backed her car up, striking the teacher. The injured 65-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries that are said to be "life-threatening".

Police officers have not charged the 50-year-old mother responsible for the pedestrian and car accident. It's possible, however, that criminal charges may be filed and that the injured woman or her family may choose to take legal action. Car accidents in which pedestrians are involved are among some of the most serious of all motor vehicle accidents and often result in the pedestrian suffering debilitating or fatal injuries.
